Whatsapp recently updated their app to add two blue ticks (check marks) to indicate messages have been read. Just like read receipts. This has been doing the rounds recently but for some reason people still seem to be completely confused by it.

The Confused

Some people are not yet sure how this works. This confusion is brought about because the biggest misconception for Whatsapp users was the the previous grey double ticks were read receipts. In actuality, the previous single and double ticks meant that the message was successfully sent and it was successfully delivered to the receiving device. Now however, when the ticks turn blue it the only way to surely tell whether the recipient has indeed read the message or not.

The Angry

Then there is a whole other bunch of individuals that are ticked off at the the whole update. With claims that the read receipts (that cannot be turned off) are going to cause more issues than do any good. I really don’t know why this is such a big deal. Since when did humanity start going into turmoil just because someone didn’t get a reply to a chat message that was read.

Well, technology has made our lives so much easier over the years, now here’s how it can make a few people’s lives miserable. May your marriage, friendship, employment etc. survive the Whatsapp blue ticks.
